Toney Carr led the way with 14pts, while Jayson Clark continued his solid play with a 10 pt contribution in the 39-37 win. Tahir Wharton was a MAJOR contributor in the game, as he did all the things that don’t show up on the stat sheet to help secure the win.

Game #3

PTT-13 girls start the summer off by claiming the championship at the “Summer Exposure Championship” at Rutgers University. After going undefeated in pool play, the girls claimed a HUGE win over the NY Gauchos in the championship game. In the first college exposure event of the summer, the girls stepped up to the challenge to defeat their NY rivals in front of a rowdy crowd of parents and fans. The buzz has begun for this talented group of rising freshmen and 8th graders among the college coaches in attendance. Standout performances came from Lauren Moses dominating the paint and Dominique Ward displaying unmatched athletism and a sweet pull-up jumper. The team hits the road again on July 25th as they will attempt to claim another chip at the USJN in the DC/Maryland area.

PTT-Bass’ Good Start for the Summer Exposure Season

Ptt-16 girls started the summer exposure season with a great showing at the Penn State Invitational July 5th-8th. After going undefeated in pool play, the team finished 5-1, ending with a tough loss in the championship game against the Lady Runnin’ Rebels. The team then took to the air heading out to Chicago, Illinois to compete in the Nike “Tournament of Champions” from July 9th-13th. A very strong showing by the team as they finished 5-1 once again. College coaches lined the sidelines each game; highlighted by a 5-point grudge match against a very talented Missouri Valley Blazers team, during which over 50 college coaches packed the sidelines to catch the action. Due to their standout performances during the 1st half of the July observation period, juniors Brittany Hrynko and Jade Howard have been featured on the very popular website, “Hoopgurlz.” Check out what national evaluator, Mark Lewis had to say about our girls.

Some people think that you cannot make a player into a point guard, that real point guards are BORN POINT GUARDS. In the case of Anthony Carr, we believe it to be true.

Case in point, Anthony’s father, Anthony, “Tony” Carr was a top point guard in the city in his day and was a 2 time all conference performer at Cheyney University. Also his grand father (also named…..Anthony) was a tough North Philly point guard that was known to destroy the rec leagues and playgrounds back in the day as well.

The apple has not fallen far from the tree. Anthony is one of the top ball players in his age group in the city of Philadelphia. His knowledge of the game, ability to control the pace of the game and overall basketball IQ is second to none. The legend surrounding “Lil Tone” has been growing since he was 7 or 8 years old. Invariably, when he is on the court you hear people in the crowd referring to him having an ”old head game” or asking “how old is he” or stating “now that’s a POINT guard”. Whether its making the pass than no one else even saw or floating that tear drop in the lane over the outstretched arm of an opponent, Anthony seems to always make the right play at the right time. An opposing coach once said, Anthony was the only player he has ever seen at 12 years old that can control the outcome of a game without scoring a single point, now THAT is a point guard!

He was recently featured on the Bball spotlight website (www.bballspotlight.com), so North Philly’s secret weapon is now being recognized as one of the top players in the region. As his game develops, I would not be surprised to see Anthony receiving attention on a national level very soon.

Both girls teams traveled to the prestigious Boo Williams College Exposure Event in Hampton VA. PTT-Bass advance out of pool play going 3-0 with a few solid wins over teams from NJ, Texas and Colorado. With several college coaches on the sidelines, juniors Monaye Merritt, Shanice “Nue-Nue” Maynard, Devin Gold and Jade Howard all increase their stock with solid performances. Lead guard Brittany Hrynko put on a show in a few games as she impressed the crowd and the college coaches from her top schools which include South Carolina, Depaul and Syracuse as coaches from those respective school watched from the sidelines. After advancing to the quarterfinal game in their bracket PTT-Bass suffered a tough lose to a solid team from Arizona, as they attempted to play their 3rd game of the day

The “young bucks” of the PTT-Hargrove team had a great showing at their first college exposure event. They went 3-0 and advanced to the semi-final game of the 13U bracket before suffering a tough lost in the semi-final game. The “fab 5″ of Mia Farmer, Deja Rawls, Lauren Moses, Dominique Ward and Aaliyah Worley lead the way all weekend. New comer Bianca Picard hit big shot after big shot to help secure wins against a very strong team out of Indiana and Team Future sponsored by WNBA star Alana Beard. One college coach said “Philly Triple Threat keeps finding that young talent”. PTT-Hargrove opened the eyes of some other teams and some college coaches with their performance at the first major tournament for this young group.

DAY 2

The boys of PTT represented well at the AGame Super Shootout today. Our 13U won 2 games and advanced to the semi final game and loss to a tough, big Team Final group. We were down to 5 players when rebounding machine Nafis “The Beast” Smalls went down with an ankle injury mid way through the first half. In the quarterfinal game against the Future Players from Prince Georges County, MD, the 13U crew played their best game of the AAU season thus far. Point guard Tony Carr, managed the pace, while Nafis Smalls collected over 20 boards. The boys from Maryland were a tough, scrappy group, and at times it looked more like a football game than a basketball game, but PTT stuck together and pulled out the victory.

Our 12U team won 2 games on Sunday and advanced to the final game and loss to a tough team from Boston. MABC Bengals jumped to an early lead and PTT was never able to recover. The boys battled and came within 8 points at one point during the second half, however they weren’t able to pull it out. The 12’s were led all weekend by Josh Sharkey and Quadir Bradley, both of whom were featured on the Bball spotlight website (www.bballspotlight.com). Great job by all teams!!

DAY 1

All of our boys teams are participating in the highly competitive AGame Super Shootout tournament at Academy of New Church.

Our 11U boys split in day 1, with a win over the Delaware Royalty and a hard fought loss to Team Final. Gurads Myles “Beefy” Holland and Troy “TK” Holland (yes they’re related) led the way for the 11’s. With a few new additions to the team, Coach Bilal has some weapons in his arsenal, we are looking for a big day 2 from our young boys.

Our 12U team continues to play well, coming off an impressive showing in the Atlantic City Showcase a couple of weeks ago. Our 12U boys won both of their games today by 40+ margins of victory. Led by super point guard Josh Sharkey, swing forward Jayson Clark and post player Quadir Bradley, PTT has shown that they are one of the best teams in the region. It’s only a matter of time before everyone on the circuit starts to take notice.

The 13U boys had the toughest game of the day. In their opening game, they faced a very tough NJ Got Game team, which defeated PTT earlier in the spring at the Clash For The Cup Tournament in NJ. The game was a true rumble from the opening tap. The boys from NJ tried to apply pressure to the guard heavy youngins from Philly. However the ballhandling and aggressive play of guards Akeem King, Tony Carr, Zane Martin and Josh Sharkey, helped PTT easily handle the press. Nafis Smalls -14pts, and Bilal Nichols (pictured)-13 pts., led the team in scoring, but it was the play of the guards that won the game for PTT. The second game of the day was a 20 point victory over the PA Renegades. Nafis Smalls once again led the team in scoring with 16 points and what seemed like 20 rebounds. It was a great day for our 13U boys, we are looking forward to advancing out of pool play tomorrow.
